Insurance

Congratulations!! You took a pregnancy test and it came out positive. Then you scheduled a consult and tour at our birth center. And while you visited us, we put together an estimate for your insurance coverage. Most people really don't understand how their insurance plans actually work. I mean, they understand that they have insurance but they often don't understand why they have to pay anything out of pocket or a how we come up with the estimate, so we thought we would help break this down for you.  But first: there are different ways people obtain insurance plans. Some employers include insurance plans are a benefit to working with their company. Employers will contract with different insurance companies and each employer might offer different plans to different employees, so just because you have Cigna, as an example, it doesn't mean all Cigna plans are the same. Also, some people purchase their own insurance plans directly from insurance companies or from the Marketpla...

12/08/09: New Building Update

Hello all, quick update on the building and the move: the final inspection is scheduled for tomorrow for the certificate of occupancy. I don't see how it will happen...but I am a bit skeptical at this point. the sink cabinets are in but I think there was a plumbing issue. the cabinets had not been delivered as of today, which means countertops couldn't be installed. If the inspection is not passed tomorrow I think we will be behind another full week. I am trying to not be too disappointed but it is hard being all packed up and disorganized when we are used to running a pretty tight ship. And the not knowing is the frustrating part. If I just had someone saying " Michelle, it will not be until after Jan 1" I would be okay. Ah well. With all the confusion I forgot to blog in two births. I will do them as separate entries though. I will update everyone tomorrow with the inspection results and the final move date.

Birth Center News!

I feel like I am going to burst with this good news and I should probably wait until Kaleen makes the announcement herself, but I feel like a balloon about to burst!! Kaleen had a meeting with our back up OBGYN today and she is going to have privileges at South Seminole Hospital! What this means to our patients and to our practice is that if for some reason we have to go to the hospital, Kaleen will be overseeing that patients care unless it is something that the doctor himself has to do. For instance, if a lady's labor stalls and she needs pitocin to get contractions going harder or she needs pain management, Kaleen can order this!!! I am so proud of her and what she has accomplished and how much of a difference she can make for our patients. Kudos to Kaleen!

Now on Facebook/volunteering

Hello ladies, our blog is now linked with facebook and we are working on our ranking score so other people can find us and follow the work at H2H as well. Thanks for all of yor support my dear friends!  We are occassionally asked about volunteering at the birth center. Yes, it is needed. But it often isn't int he area that many are really thinking. In order to keep us running smoothly and giving our patients the extra touches that we love to do we do need help. There are often clerical things going on in the background that hold us up and that is really the stuff that we need help with: copying, making postpartum packages, ironing on the decals for the newborn tee shirts, CLEANING!!  We love the help we get but we do hate to ask for it (just like any other woman, we like to feel like we can maintain on our own...the difference is we still have to go home and clean our own homes as well). There are other things that need work... record keeping for the breastfeeding group. I want to ...

Hello All!

Just an update on the new building: we have block! I will be updating with each new stage now and will try to figure out how to get these pictures up.  The new birth center will have 3 birth rooms, 2 exam rooms, a large waiting room and kitchen area, and office areas for me and Kaleen, Karin & Becca! Yeah, we will have some separate space!! Our areas are actually joined be windows so we can all talk though...we are a close knit group! The master bedroom features french doors that lead out to a private lanai. We are planning to plant beautiful night blooming fragrant flowers out here such as Confederate Jasmine and Moonflower and maybe some honeysuckle. There will be an awning out there with comfy patio furniture so you can sit outside or wander out and around in labor. The tub in the private bathroom is the big corner type that actually has a reclining area and a seat in it. This bedroom will also have a canopy bed in it with bedding reminiscent of a bed and breakfast in South Caro...
