Insurance

Congratulations!! You took a pregnancy test and it came out positive. Then you scheduled a consult and tour at our birth center. And while you visited us, we put together an estimate for your insurance coverage. Most people really don't understand how their insurance plans actually work. I mean, they understand that they have insurance but they often don't understand why they have to pay anything out of pocket or a how we come up with the estimate, so we thought we would help break this down for you.  But first: there are different ways people obtain insurance plans. Some employers include insurance plans are a benefit to working with their company. Employers will contract with different insurance companies and each employer might offer different plans to different employees, so just because you have Cigna, as an example, it doesn't mean all Cigna plans are the same. Also, some people purchase their own insurance plans directly from insurance companies or from the Marketpla

Happy New Year!

Always being one for the dramatic (at least in my personal life) I felt the need to end this year with some fun...like I have any control over these issues! At any rate, Lynn was traveling for the holidays, and I have oh, 14 people due. Now would 14 people go into labor all at the same time? NOOO, they wouldn't do that to me, they like me! No, but we did have 7 of those births in a weeks time. Wonderful, blessed, incredible births, and I am grateful and honored to have served each woman and their families.

This morning, our first baby of 2009 has been delivered. This was also a wonderful birth. Baby girl Makada has been born and she weighed 7.4. Her parents, Erika and Sisay are grateful that it is done, and I will tell you for a first time mom and for having a posterior birth (face up instead of face down toward moms bottom) it was pretty smooth. She arrived at 10:30 pm and we had a baby in her arms at 3:00 am. Thank you God for another blessed birth. You are truly a mighty God!

My assistant, Rebecca did a wonderful job and she is really learning a lot. If she ever gets to midwifery school, she will be a great assett to Heart 2 Heart Birth Center (not that she isn't now, but speaking in terms of in her future capacity).

Thank you all for listening to my ramblings and scribbles from the middle of the night, everyone wants to be heard. I am no exception.

My prayer for the New Year:

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love,
For it is in giving that we receive,
In pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Happy Birth Day Makada, have a blessed and peaceful life. You are well loved.

What a great way to start the new year!
I'm actually really interested in midwifery myself, and if i can ever stop having babies I really want to look into it, (if it's still legal by then). Looking forward to my appointment next week, see you then!

I think you would make a great midwife, and when you are ready I would be honored to help train you!
